The history of Chaozhou

Chaozhou is an ancient name. When the Banpochunhemudu delivered their ancient civilization, the people of Chaohou also started to gather to reside on this ancient land. The Beiqiu ruins of the Chenqiao country, the Beiqiu ruins of the Chihu country, the Beiqiu ruins of the Meilin Lake, the Beiqiu ruins of the Shiwei Mountain, the Shanqiu ruins of the Haijiao Mountain, the Shangang ruins of the Shen Mountain of the Lishuxia which are some ancient cultural ruins be like the history paintings.
After the Qinshihuang united China, four countries which were the Guilin country, the Nabhai country, the Xiang country and the Min country were established in south. Chaohou belonged to the Nabhai country at that time. Chaohou belonged to the Jieyang country of the Nabhai country in 111 B.C. Chaohou which was called Haiyang country started to build in 331 A.D. The Yian country which was the precursor of Chaozhou was established in 413 A.D. It was renamed Yian country in 590 A.D. Later it was renamed Chaoan country in 1914 A.D. because its name was the same to the Haiyang country of Shangdong Province. The name of Chaozhou was called in 591 A.D. firstly. But it changed many times. It was renamed Yian country in 607 A.D. The name of ChaoZhou appeared for the second time in 621 A.D. because of the instauration of the state system. It was renamed Chaoyang country in 742 A.D. because of discarding the state to place the county. The city area of Chaozhou was a place of the past county, state, mansion. It was the politic and cultural center of the area of the Chaozhou and Shantou before the liberation. Chaozhou was still the economic center of the area of the Chaozhou and Shantou and the area of the east of Guangdong before Shantou was opened in 1861 A.D.
It still called Chaoan County after the New China was built up. Chaozhou City was placed in 1953. Chaozhou City was withdrew and merged into Chaozhou country in 1958. It was recovered Chaozhou City by the approval of the State Department in 1979, the county, city once more set up to make respectively. Chaozhou country was withdrew and merged into Chaozhou City in 1983. Chaozhou City was settled to be governed the city of the province in January of 1989, enjoyed the city-class economy management legal power, the county class was set up to make; Settled in January 1990 for vice-ly class City. At the end of 1991, Chaozhou City promoted to combine to extend the district for the ground-class City, the administrative area that rules over the even county of the tide of the Xiangqiao District which is county-class, new instauration Chaoan county and Raoping country of Shantou City. After villages were withdrawn, there are 43 towns, 9 streets and 945 neighborhood committees in the whole city.
